ENGINE OIL

ENGINE OIL

Engine oil is a lot of variety and kinds depending on the type of machine used. The use of engine oil should be in accordance with the needs of the machine, use the right oil can increase or preserve the vehicle's engine ages. Actually, all basically the same type of oil as a lubricant for the machine to run smoothly and hassle free besides the engine oil also serves as a coolant and insulating / sealing parts in the engine. Oil contained in the fine layers that function to prevent the occurrence of friction between engine components to a minimum and prevent scratches or wear and tear.

1.Types of Oil
  • · Mineral Oil
Mineral oil is made from oil (base oil) is derived from petroleum that has been processed and refined and supplemented with substances - additives to enhance the capabilities and functions.

  • · Synthetic Oil
Synthetic oils are made up polyalphaolifins then mixed with mineral oil. Basically synthetic oil is designed to produce a more effective performance than mineral oil.

2. Viscosity (viscosity)

Viscosity is an important element in the oil as it relates to the thickness of the oil as a lubricant and protector of clashes between the metal surface, or how much resistance to flow. oil should have a more precise viscosity at the highest temperature or lowest temperature when the engine is operated. The more viscous the oil, then layer caused more dam vice versa. Oil should be flowing in the engine is cold or hot temperatures so it can lubricate all moving engine components. Smooth layer on viscous oil gives extra capability clean sweep, or lubricated metal surface. Instead of oil is too thick will give resistance to drain excess oil at low temperatures so that interrupt the lubrication of the components needed.
Thus, oil has a grade (degree) separately regulated by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). When the numbers listed on the packaging oil SAE 5W-30 5W means (winter) shows the temperature of cold working on the oil viscosity and the temperature of the hottest 5 will work on the oil viscosity 30. but use must comply with the viscosity required by the machine.
For example, differences in viscosity of engine oil as follows:

5W-30 for cold weather like in Sweden.
10W-30 for the climate was like in the UK.
15W-30 for the hot weather in the region such as Indonesia.

3. Quality

The quality of oil symbolized by API (American Petroleum Institute). All of the quality of oil is set by the API for gasoline engines and diesel engines.

4. contamination
Contamination due to foreign matter or particle contaminants in the oil. The few objects which are common contaminants in the oil including the following:
  • Wear of the elements. It shows some of the elements typically consist of copper, iron, chrominim, aluminum, tin, molybdenum, silicon, nickel, or magnesium.
  • Dirt. Dirt can get into the oil through the air blowing through her ring and through the sidelines of a thin oil layer and then propagates down the cylindrical wall.
  • Fuel
  • Water. This is a byproduct of combustion and usually occurs through the accumulation of smoke. Water can condense in the crankcase when the engine operating temperature is inadequate.
  • Ethylene gycol (anti freeze)
  • Sulfur products / acids.
  • Causes product-oxidation products increased viscous oil. Increased by the high oxidation power inlet air temperature.
